What's On

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 2023We're back! Since summer 2021 actually. However, we are conscious that Covid hasn't actually gone away, so obviously we are still taking every possible precaution to ensure that our classes are a safe environment. Please get in touch if you have any questions or residual worries.

Summary:

  1. There are currently three weekly drumming classes to choose from. See below.

  2. Or have a go at the ukulele! A beginner class, a class for improvers moving on beyond the basics, and TWO third level classes for improvers to choose from this term. See below.

  3. Drums Agogo famous schools' workshops are also back on the menu - see below.

WEEKLY DRUMMING CLASSES ARE BACK!!

at Rossett School, Harrogate

Two hours of drumming fun!

This class is for adult drummers of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Instruments are provided (and sanitised before use), so don't worry if you don't have a drum of your own. We are hosted by Rossett Adult Learning.

WEEKLY UKULELE CLASSES - BEGINNERS

Thursday evenings, 7:30pm -9:30pm

at Rossett School, Harrogate

Beginners -  Learn to play the world's most beginner-friendly musical instrument, and have fun making music with other people.  All the skills you need to sing and strum along to thousands of your favourite songs - in just 10 weeks! Don't worry if you don't have your own uke yet - we've got lots.We are hosted by Rossett Adult Learning.

WEEKLY UKULELE CLASSES - BEYOND THE BASICS (level 2)

Wednesday evenings, 6:00 - 7:30pm

at Rossett School, Harrogate

Ukulele level 2 - Beyond the basics

If you already know a dozen or so chords and are happily strumming your way through your favourite songs, you're ready to take your rukulelle playing to another level. This course is not about adding more and more chords to what you know - instead the focus is on a repertoire of skills you can draw on to add musical interest and variety to your playing. Topics covered include damping, muting, chunking, percussive effects and a range of finger-picking skills.

WEEKLY UKULELE CLASSES  - NEXT STEPS Level 3

Thursday evenings,   6:00 - 7:30pm

at Rossett School, Harrogate

Ukulele level 3 - Next Steps

This course is designed for players who have already got a repertoire of a dozen or more chords, and have probably picked up some additional starter skills such as finger picking, muting, golpe and using barre chords. We're moving forward on the ukulele journey. We can look at improving skills from that list if you'd like some reminders, tips and practice, and there will be a "buffet" of further ukulele technniques to choose from (you choose!). These might include the famous Formby "split stroke,"a bit of Bossa Nova, some jazz chords, a handy blues turnaround and more.

DRUMMING WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOLS (AND OTHER GROUPS)

Drums Agogo provides African drumming workshops for schools.

Please get in touch for a chat about how we can work together to deliver an exciting, but Covid-safe, African Drumming experience tailored to your venue and fully risk-assessed and managed.

 ** MASTER DRUMMER WORKSHOPS

Drums Agogo occasionally hosts workshops led by guest teachers who are Master Drummers from Africa. These "djembefola" workshops are open to experienced drummers.

None are currently scheduled until we get completely back to normal, but please watch this space!

GIGS

Our 14 -strong African drumming group, Belebele, took an enforced break, due to Covid,  from 2020 onwards, but we've got our mojo back and are available once more for bookings at your event. You can also check here for details of public performances by Belebele.

Also, look out for Drums Agogo and friends busking around Harrogate and Otley, as we did up to 2019.  We have been working to raise awareness of a charity called "Papyrus: Prevention of Young Suicide."
